Chance the Rapper, a leader in the hip-hop and rap industry, has recently collaborated with trumpeter Donald Trumpet and other bohemian musicians self-titled, “The Social Experiment.” Their new album, Surf, includes new sounds layered on top of older one: hip-hop, funk, gospel and small doses of R&B.

“Sunday Candy” by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment is the newest song to jam to. With its light hearted and lively feel, the song speaks of the eagerness to reunite with your significant other. The lyrics make references to church and Christianity often, for example, “I am the thesis of her prayers” and “Rain down Zion, it’s gonna rain,” but is mainly about familiar love. With Chance singing the verses, Jamila Woods taking over the bridge and hook, and The Social Experiment in charge of the instrumentals, the song comes together with comfort and lightness.

The music video was completed in one shot, which consists of continuous action with the camera rolling in a single take. All of this is done in a retro school-play type of set heavily influenced by Chicago’s “bop scene.”
