In honour of their new album that was released October 30th, I dedicate this week to the California band, The Neighbourhood.

The four-member band formed in 2011 in Southern California. You might’ve first been familiarized with the band when you heard their single “Sweater Weather,” which topped Billboard’s Top Alternative Songs chart for eleven weeks.
The Neighbourhood considers their music to be in the ‘dark pop’ category, but their official genre is alternative. They go for a black and white aesthetic with a west coast vibe. I saw them live August 2014 in Atlantic City and oh what an experience that was.
“R.I.P. 2 My Youth” by the Neighbourhood is the chosen song for this week. It was the first release for their new album, Wiped Out!

Frontman Jesse Rutherford states, “Sometimes your youth—some people have it taken away from them earlier and some people get to wait a little longer before you have to grow up, but either way the world kind of hits you.” The band is known for eerie instrumentals and pained lyrics; this song fits that standard. R.I.P. 2 My Youth speaks of the transition of adulthood and separation from the freedom of youth.
