FTHS students, along with family members and loved ones, piled into the auditorium on Thursday evening, January 22^nd, to attend the annual National Honor Society induction ceremony to be recognized for their academic achievements.

Mr. Grimes, advisor of the FTHS National Honor Society, led the ceremony and introduced the senior NHS council. Each of these six members read aloud the requirements of being a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. The actual ceremony began when each inductee received a lit candle and lined the walls of the auditorium.

Senior Aaron Rotem led the juniors in reciting the NHS oath, including a promise to maintain good character and high scholastic standing.

Afterwards, the inductees took their seats again and Mr. Patterson, a math teacher and last year’s Teacher of the Year at FTHS, took the stage to make an inspiring speech. He congratulated the selected students and revealed his high school and college experiences, which included switching majors and other bumps along the road to finding the career that was right for him.

Ms. Higley then made closing remarks and further congratulated the juniors.

In the words of inductee Melissa Ng, “the ceremony was interesting – very formal and professional. It was nice to see everyone so well dressed and to stand with my closest friends as I was being inducted. The ceremony was like the icing on the cake as it was the official induction into the program.”

The selected students put tremendous amounts of work into getting accepted into the program. They maintained high GPAs, contributed many hours of community service, and filled out rigorous applications.

Ng says, “It feels great to have been chosen for the National Honor Society. It is nice to know that all my hard work paid off and I am being recognized for doing well and trying hard.”
