Workplace Training Celebrates Thanksgiving Together

As November comes to a close, students and faculty here at Freehold Township so much to be thankful for. We are surrounded by great people and opportunities that would not be afforded at any other school in the world. While students are often grateful for the education provided by their amazing teachers, the teachers are extremely appreciative for their hardworking students who approach each day with an optimistic attitude.

Some of the most dedicated and diligent people in this school are the Work-Place Training students. They all arrive with a desire to learn, work, and enjoy each day to the fullest. The teachers recognize and admire this tireless attitude and in turn provide a Thanksgiving feast fit for a king each year. The annual meal has been going on for more than four years and often draws quite a crowd, including the school’s administration and the superintendent.

The meal is cooked by some of the Work-Place Training teachers and is a real community effort. The money for the feast comes from the pretzels sold on half days. After enough money is earned, the teachers travel to the supermarket and pick out only the best ingredients for the most delicious spread imaginable.

While students enjoyed all of the food, the two clear favorites were the turkey and the stuffing. Other students indulged in sweet potatoes with fluffy, toasted marshmallows sprinkled on top. Other dishes available were mashed potatoes, pasta, and apple cider. Dessert included all different types of cookies, even ones that were made to look like Pilgrim hats.

While the food often takes the stage during Thanksgiving, the Work-Place Training students realize there is much more to this holiday than that. Many students said their favorite part of Thanksgiving was spending time with their family around the dinner table or in front of television watching the parade. They love being able to take off from school, relax, and enjoy the days off with the people they love.

All in all, the Thanksgiving Feast was a success and a great time was had by all.

Thanksgiving is a time to show gratitude, which is exactly what these teachers did. By making a student’s day just a little better, they truly proved they care. So this Thursday, make sure you go the extra mile to show someone you appreciate them. Happy Thanksgiving, FTHS!
