Another Valentine’s Day means another day to dread if you’re single. February 14 is the day some love (literally) and some hate. If you’re one to hate it, it’s either because you have no one to spend it with or you hate being corny with others. Instead of celebrating the love-filled day, here are 5 ideas you can do if you don’t necessarily enjoy Valentine’s Day.

#1 Send yourself or somebody else chocolates and flowers
You don’t need somebody else to send you a card and chocolates to make your day. TREAT YOURSELF! Or if that’s not something that’ll please you, go drop off chocolates, pretty flowers, and a heart-filled letter to your single friends.

#2 Spend it with your friends

Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to spend it with a partner or crush, you can spend it with someone you care about too. Who said friend’s couldn’t hang out on Valentine’s Day? Spending it with your friends probably feels better too because you don’t have to be all lovey-dovey.

#3 Treat it like it’s any other day.

Valentine’s Day WHO? February 14th is just another day, some people just chose that day to appreciate their partner. If you don’t have one, you don’t need to feel bad for yourself. You don’t even have to act like anything in particular is happening. I mean come on, there’s a ‘National Cook A Sweet Potato Day” that nobody even realizes exists. If people don’t know about that, you don’t have to acknowledge Valentine’s Day!

#4 Have a “Secret Valentine’s” with your friends

You’re not the only one who is single in this world! Gather up some friends and just like “Secret Santa” you can have “Secret Valentine’s”. Write down everybody’s name and put it in a hat and draw, whoever you get will be the person you get a gift for. Instead of the generic and last-option box of chocolates, think outside of the box and get your secret valentine something they can look back on!

#5 Binge watch your favorite TV show

This is probably the easiest one to do, if you’re tired of opening Instagram to a bunch of people spending Valentine’s Day together, turn off your phone, open up your laptop and binge watch a tv show. It doesn’t have to be anything in particular, just click on whatever seems most interesting.

Always remember that Valentine’s day is NOT about self-pity because you have no one to spend it with, look past that and focus on spending it with people who care about you or even spending it alone. Keep in mind that there’s no wrong or right way to spend this certain day, it’s all about what you do to make it fun or make it just like any other ordinary day!
