Greetings, fellow patriots! You’ve probably been wondering where my presence has been this past month. Well, I’ve been very busy with life, but don’t doubt that I haven’t caught the latest films or that I’d give up on you guys. I’m here with short, paragraph-long reviews of the last movies I have watched since my last review. Let’s go!
Normal:
This is Bob Odenkirk’s newest action movie, and it is a blast of a movie that manages to stay self-aware. It blends action with chaos and dark humor very well, and Bob Odenkirk continues to excel in his weirdly brilliant career evolution from Breaking Bad to just pure mindless action movies. I also found this movie to be incredibly funny and wittily written, alongside its isolated tone of making the town feel off at the start. Very over-the-top action that doesn’t hold back. Just a very fun popcorn action flick that I would recommend.
I’m gonna give Normal a B+

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy:
Gotta be entirely honest with you guys on this one, this is the worst movie I’ve seen all year. I hate to talk bad about movies here, but it is what it is. Terrible writing, storyline, major plot holes, and absolutely HORRIBLE sound design. The movie just follows the same basis as every other possession movie you’ve seen before. The characters are painfully unlikable, the plot is predictable, there’s no suspense, and this movie is called The Mummy but has absolutely nothing to do with the source material. I highly recommend sitting this one out.
I’m gonna give Lee Cronin’s The Mummy an F

Michael:
This was one of my most anticipated films of the year, and I thought it was a good movie! Jaafar Jackson and Colman Domingo give absolutely amazing performances here. Jaafar didn’t just play his uncle; he became him. In a sense of narrative storytelling, it’s nothing really special, but every musical sequence is excellent. The last 10 minutes are heart-pounding. It just plays it a little too safe for a biopic, especially about MJ, but I can’t wait to see the sequel, and I highly recommend this film.
I’m gonna give Michael a B+

The Devil Wears Prada 2:
I found this sequel to be on par with the original. This film is very fun and definitely a solid watch. Very nostalgic, and they did a very good job fitting current events into this film. The message was also incredibly relatable to me. Anne Hathaway does a very good job, alongside Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, my personal favorite, and Meryl Streep—well, she can do anything.
I’m gonna give The Devil Wears Prada 2 a B+

Hokum:
This movie blew my expectations out of the water. Very rich in its tension and atmosphere, and excellent jumpscares. Not a super unique premise, but the execution of it is better than most films like this. It has humorous moments, but not to where it feels annoying. It also doesn’t overdo the scares. This film might grow to be a cult classic someday, and I loved it.
I’m gonna give Hokum an A-

The Sheep Detectives:
This is another movie that exceeded my expectations immensely. The trailer makes it seem like a low-brow family comedy, but it’s actually deeper than that. There are aspects of humanity thrown throughout, and you get to see through the sheep’s point of view, and that’s honestly amazing. Also, for a movie about sheep detectives, it really tugs at your heartstrings. It feels weirdly Agatha Christie in the sense of a whodunit. It’s very absorbing and whimsical, and I can confidently say that I loved The Sheep Detectives, and everybody else will too, so I highly recommend this film.
I’m gonna give The Sheep Detectives an A+

In the Grey:
This is Guy Ritchie’s new caper heist movie, and it’s a nice and fun little movie. But it feels very different from what we usually see from Guy Ritchie, which is fine, just something I had noticed. The dialogue feels more precise here than in most of his work. It feels very precision over passion, and that’s why I enjoyed it. Is it gonna win any awards? No. Did I have fun? Yes.
I’m gonna give In the Grey a B-

The Mandalorian & Grogu:
My expectations for this movie were decently low because I was immensely disappointed with season 3, but I left this movie pleasantly surprised. It’s a fun adventure movie. The story is kinda basic, but it’s executed quite well. Yes, there is some CGI applied, but making some of the characters, especially the Hutts, animatronics was a nice touch. They look a lot better now, but that’s probably because technology is so much better now. Overall, this was just a worry-free, fun popcorn movie that I enjoyed.
I’m gonna give The Mandalorian & Grogu a B+

Passenger:
I had low expectations for this movie, but I came out enjoying it. Good tension throughout, great jumpscares as well. It does rely a lot on jumpscares, and most feel earned, but it sometimes feels aggravating. Not heavy on body count, but when deaths occur, they’re just the right amount of impact without coming off too tame or too graphic. The performances are decent, and it has a phenomenal opening sequence. The script is quite wonky, but for a movie like this, I don’t expect incredible writing. The story felt easy to follow, and I liked that about it. Passenger doesn’t do anything to necessarily reinvent the name of horror, but it’s a fun watch.
I’m gonna give Passenger a B-

Pressure:
Last, but not least, we got the new Brendan Fraser historical drama, Pressure. This is a film I thoroughly enjoyed. It is very intense, emotional, stressful, and captivating throughout. It draws you into its storyline very quickly, and it does a very good job of showing everyone’s approach toward this history-changing decision. It draws you in so much to the point where you start to feel the pressure yourself (no pun intended). Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott deliver very powerful performances, and they’re the strongest attributes of the film. I highly recommend this movie.
I’m gonna give Pressure a B+
