The world was shocked to hear that the very successful rap artist, Jermaine Cole (J. Cole) has released a new album, 4 Your Eyez Only.  J. Cole’s team announced the album release a week before it dropped (along with the birth of his first child).

Before J. Cole released his album, he released two singles titled, “False Prophets” and “Everybody Dies” on December 6th.

The basic backstory behind “False Prophets” is the relationship between J. Cole and another famous rapper named Kanye West. J. Cole use to look up to Kanye West, but it all came tumbling down when Kanye got the credit that J. Cole believed he should have gotten. J. Cole was angry that Kanye gave into the plastic side of fame, and how he became the person who he is today. He feels like his former “role model” is now materialistic and not the same. “There was a time when this ***** was my hero, maybe / That’s the reason why his fall from grace is hard to take.”

A few years ago, J. Cole was somewhat in a competition with Kanye, saying he deserved the fame Kanye had, and now it seems as he portrays Kanye to be fake and, as said before, materialistic because J. Cole states, “I believed him when he said his **** was purer, and he the type of ***** swear he real, but all around him’s fake.”

The story behind “Everybody Dies” is a song that wraps around being the “king” of rap, just as “Fire Squad” (from his previous album titled 2014 Forest Hills Drive) talks about being or wanting to be the “king” of rap.

All in all, the album is basically story, “in a perspective that isn’t J. Cole,” as the Dreamville producer explains it. J. Cole’s fans gave a great reaction toward his album in some tweets below.  Many celebrities even gave compliments and love toward the album.

Senior, Samantha Singh, admires J. Cole’s new album. “The story he tells throughout the album really shows his creativity as an artist. Maybe one day the kids will learn about his style of art in classrooms.”
