Top 15 Movies to Look Forward to in 2017

Pedro Vasquez, Staff Writer

2016 had its fair share of great movies, yet there’s more to come since it’s only December. Since 2016 is ending, it’s time to list the top 15 movies to look forward to in 2017. This list consists of movie trailers/sneak peaks that have received positive feedback by people of the internet—likes and views.

15) Friday the 13th: Reboot (October 13th)- Most people know Jason Voorhees right? If not, then when it’s Friday the 13th, sleep with one eye open! Jason is a serial killer who kills kids and young adults in glorious fashion. He has no mercy with the disabled. The last time the audience saw Jason was in 2009 with Friday the 13th, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the reboot.

14) War for the Planet of the Apes (July 14th): Who doesn’t love animals with human instincts? Lead by Cesar, a group of Apes terrorize major cities and call the cities home. At the same time, the Apes meet a new family who try to change the Apes for the better.  It’ll be interesting what will happen in War because after Cesar killed his buddy, Cobba, Cesar proves to his Ape army and to humans everywhere that he’s the boss, and the Apes mean no harm. Who will be the next person to mix with the Apes?

13) Alien: Covenant (May 19th): After seeing a 50 second trailer, viewers can already tell Covenant is going to be a great sequel to Alien! Taking place outside of Earth with a horrific helicopter crash, with one look of these Aliens, the audience will surely have nightmares because the Aliens are creepier than Freddie Cruger!

12) Fast 8 (April 14): After Furious 7, it was uncertain whether or not directors would make another movie after the death of Paul Walker, but fortunately they are! F. Gary Gray is directing the next one and it’s in beloved New York City. Decer Shaw (played by Jason Statham) escaped from prison and takes the battle to the Big Apple—something is sure to happen with our beloved city!

11) Thor: Ragnarok (November 3rd): Oh, where to begin with the almighty Thor?  Let’s just say he’s one of the most beloved Marvel superheroes, and Thor coming back to the big screen by himself is just marvelous. Last time, the audience saw Thor was after the Doctor Strange movie when Strange and Thor were having a beer, and they were talking about his brother Loki.

10) Justice League (November 17th): Viewers first got a big hint about Justice League springing into action during Superman vs. Batman when they saw Wonder Woman looking through files and she sees a half man, half robot indicating Cyborg—a man faster than the speed of light (Flash), and a man who can communicate with the sea (Aquaman). After the death of Superman, it appears that Batman and Wonder Woman assemble a team to take down the future of evil and the Justice League is born! Hopefully, it’ll be better than Superman vs. Batman in the box office.

9) Spiderman: Homecoming (July 7th): The first look at the new and improved Spiderman was in Captain America: Civil War where the new Peter Parker teamed up with Iron Man and his army to take down Captain America’s team. He expressed the same emotion and comedy as in the two other Spiderman movies, but will this one stay?

8) Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23rd): Mark Wahlberg is the person who finds Transformers from another planet to stop the evil on Earth! This is Mark’s second time playing the main roll since the original movie. Shia Labeouf was fired due to his recent behavior outside of film. Mark does a great job in his role, what can viewers expect from him… nothing more than perfection!

7) Power Rangers (March 24th): Fans of the original classic 90’s kids television series are getting something very different then the kids show. Apparently, this film is rated R, and it’s supposed to be the darkest thing anyone has ever seen. Five teenagers team up to take down Rita who attempts to take over Earth. From the teaser trailer, viewers see them fighting such ruthless monsters killing people, dealing with heavy amounts of bullying, and explicit language! It is sure to be darker than the original.

6) Beauty and the Beast (March 17th): Disney fans will enjoy this movie a lot because it’s almost the same as the original film, but not in cartoon form. In the trailer, viewers see what all the little girls cry about—the ballroom dance. Whether you like the story, or not, it should be a great film for people of all ages!

5) Wonder Woman (June 2nd): After being killed off in the Fast and Furious franchise, Gal Gadot moved on to bigger and better things—like Wonder Woman. The audience saw her in action in Superman vs Batman, and she was the character who stole the show! Now, she has her own movie coming out which takes place during World War I. Wonder Woman looks amazing in the teaser trailer with her full outfit and shield, and the battle scene looked great. A movie bonus is that she finds romance at some point!

4) Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15th)- Despite the fact there’s no teaser trailer out yet, fans can already tell that Kylo Ren isn’t finished with what he started. When Rey found out that Han Solo was killed by his own son, Kylo, watchers can tell that the war isn’t over! At the end of Force Awakens, the audience saw an older Luke Skywalker receive his trusted lightsaber from Rey. Will this indicate a partnership? Fans will just have to find out next December.

3) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tells No Tales (May 26th): One live television teaser trailer and it’s the topic every movie fan is talking about! With Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, he has to go one-on-one against ghost pirates who were introduced in the teaser trailer. These ghost pirates who are creepier than Michael Myers are sure to be great villains for Jack and his team of pirates.

2) Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 (May 5th): These guardians are back at it again with another funny movie for us. The first one was in theaters for approximately 5 months, which is really good for a film like this. Storyline, good. Characters, great. Cast, outstanding. Funny moments, 10/10. Perfect movie for the year and with the trailer, Drax had a funny moment with Star Lord when hugged Lord for eventually finding the right girl for him. Hopefully, there will be more, oh yeah, there definitely be more!

Before we get to our number one pick, here are some few honorable mentions:

  •        Cars 3 (June 16th)
  •        Saw: Legacy (October 27th)
  •        Despicable Me 3 (June 30th)
  •        Kong: Skull Island (March 10th)

1) Logan (March 3rd): The last Wolverine Hugh Jackman will make should be a blockbuster hit! Throughout the movie, Logan has to go from one direction to another with the help of a little girl that is basically like him! Plus be a total savage with his meta human powers, taking down enemies who try to kill him! Whether it’s the Wolverine movie everyone wants to see, or a Last of Us video game in a movie you want to see, it’s sure to be a number one hit for a very long time!
