After finding out what had happened to Daryl after punching Negan in the face, the viewers now know that there is more than meets the eye! Arriving in Negan’s home, “The Sanctuary”, the audience sees Daryl stripped from his clothes and being held hostage in the punishment chamber. Daryl eats dog food sandwiches and if he tries to sleep, he wakes up to the song “703 Easy Street” playing loudly at a high volume. (The audience will learn the significance of the song later on.)

Throughout this episode the viewers saw the return of D, better known as Dwight. Dwight was first introduced in the first half of season six when he meets Daryl for the first time with his sister Tina and his wife at the time, Sherry. What the viewers didn’t know was that all three of the characters escaped “The Sanctuary” to help Tina get better because she was ill. Once Tina died from a walker, Dwight and Sherry decided to go back to “The Sanctuary” with Daryl’s motorcycle and crossbow. The viewers didn’t see Dwight again until the second half of season six where he used Daryl’s crossbow to kill Doctor Denise, and now he’s back with his ex-wife Sherry, and torturing Daryl.

The side of Dwight’s face is scarred. Upon returning to “The Sanctuary” Dwight and Sherry were met by an angry Negan. Negan was furious with them for leaving and stealing  medication, and also angry with the death of Tina because she was going to marry Negan. Negan decided to kill both of them, until Dwight volunteered to die at the hands of Negan. But Sherry didn’t want Dwight to die, so she agreed to marry Negan. Negan did not think that was enough, so Negan burned the side of Dwight’s face with a steaming hot iron.

Daryl was tortured, and made to eat dog food, and every time he tried falling asleep, he was awakened to the song, “703 Easy Street” by The Collapsable Hearts.  [wpdevart_youtube]JoQ4GidQP-k[/wpdevart_youtube] This song is very important in the episode because there are no more easy streets for Daryl. Everywhere he goes Negan is there to make life so much harder for him, whether it’s him or his group of Saviors, they are all Negan!

Another song that was played to torture Daryl was “Crying” by Roy Orbison as a reminder of Glenn’s death. Daryl punched Negan and got his friend killed, and is now feeling guilty. This song was used to break Daryl, and while keeping his reality in check, what made him cry was a picture of Glenn after beaten to death.

After seeing Daryl tortured at the hands of “The Saviors,” the watchers now know why Dwight, Sherry, and Tina left “The Sanctuary” in the first place: they couldn’t handle it anymore! Dwight’s former friend Gordon tried to leave for the same reason. He even told Dwight that he’d rather die than to return to “The Sanctuary.” After arguing with Dwight to return to “The Sanctuary,” Gordon didn’t get far because Dwight gave him his final wish and killed him. Dwight now feels somewhat the same as Gordon about living in “The Sanctuary.”

Overall, this was another great episode because the viewers really had to think and analyze what is happening to really understand the episode. Dwight is Negan’s best worker, but doesn’t want to be that person anymore. Daryl has to tolerate being a prisoner of “The Sanctuary” and feel the guilt of causing Glenn’s death. Everyone that works for Negan is Negan. This episode puts it into a great storyline for Dwight, Sherry, and Daryl to team up against Negan, but the viewer shouldn’t want to jump to conclusions right away. In next week’s 90-minute episode, the watchers will finally know what happens to the group,  and what they are going to give Negan as their first supply drop from Alexandria. Enjoy next week’s episode Freehold Patriots, and don’t cry, but cross an easy street. Ta-ta!
