Steven Universe Returns

Deryn Younger, Staff Writer

After a rather long hiatus – roughly two months! – the popular Cartoon Network show Steven Universe is finally back.

On November 17th, Steven Universe will be returning for a half-hour special, twice the length of a normal episode. Titled “Gem Harvest,” it can be assumed that this will most likely be a Thanksgiving-themed episode. Who knows what can happen within those thirty minutes?

The show’s creator, Rebecca Sugar, debuted a clip from “Gem Harvest” at New York Comic Con in early October. The sneak-peek showed two gems, Peridot and Lapis, growing crops on their new farm they started near the barn – seemingly out of nowhere. Steven decides to take a visit and ends up helping their plants take on a life of their own (part of his powers), which seems like it will be a major part of this episode.

Rebecca Sugar is notorious for throwing around some major plot twists – as well as some major feels and emotional hurricanes. So while the trailer and title may seem welcoming and innocent, nobody can know for sure what this episode will bring to audiences everywhere.

One thing that is for sure is many fans – such as myself! – have been awaiting fresh, new content from Steven Universe; excluding the four new shorts released earlier last month. This upcoming episode, as well as the rest of the ones in season four, are sure to keep all members of the fandom on the edge of their seats.

As of right now, there are no more set episodes in season four besides the two mentioned below, but there are rumors going around of one called “The War” which may be released sometime in the near future. One can only imagine that this will be about the infamous gem war on Homeworld, and could possibly contain some backstory on Steven’s mother and great gem warrior, Rose Quartz.

Be sure to tune in on November 17th for the new episode “Gem Harvest”, and on December 1st for another new episode titled “Three Gems and a Baby” (which happens to be one I am very excited to see)!
