Kelly Anderson Gives the Scoop on SGAs Plans for Junior Prom

Grace Jicha, Staff Writer

As Prom 2016 is quickly approaching, we see our fellow classmates scrambling to get ready for the highly anticipated affair. Girls rush to find the perfect dress and guys rack their brains to plan the perfect “promposal.” Prom season is in the air, but who is behind the planning of this major event? The Junior Class Student Government Association, or the SGA. The SGA is responsible for planning and running many school functions. The Patriot Press had a chance to sit down with Junior Class SGA Officer Kelly Anderson to better understand the roles of the SGA Officers and gather some inside information about Junior Prom 2016.

Q: How long have you been attending FTHS?

A: I have been attending FTHS since my sophomore year.

Q: What FTHS extracurricular activities are you involved in?

A: I am a cheerleader and an SGA officer. I’m also a member of Lead for Diversity and the Patriot Warriors club.

Q: How long have you been involved in the FTHS SGA?

A: Since my sophomore year

Q: What are the responsibilities of the Junior Student Government Officers?

A: We have to represent the grade as a whole and be at all the SGA sponsored events and help them run smoothly. We have to make sure that everyone gets a say in what we do as a grade. We plan school wide events like Singled Out 2015 and we did our part in Haunted High School. This year we have done a lot with the Fashion Show and of course, Junior Prom.

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about what the 2016 Junior Prom looks like?

A: We have decided on the Great Gatsby theme. We’ve made it so that pictures are included in Prom Bids, which is different than last year. We are also having at a different venue, and we’re trying to make it the best Junior Prom it can possibly be without making it better than Senior Prom. We’re doing a lot of different things than last year.

Q: When and where is prom?

A: Prom is being held at Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood on April 15, 2016 from 6-10pm.

Q: What is your favorite part of being an SGA officer?

A: I just love being a part of the major events that the whole grade and the whole school take part in, the events that make FTHS have as much spirit as it does. I like that everyone is able to come together and have fun at school outside of academics to just make high school more enjoyable.

Q: If interested, how can a junior class member become involved in SGA?

A: You can come to an SGA meeting in E103, we have them every Tuesday morning, and get an activities paper from Miss. English or Miss. Rattien.
