Freehold Township Flag Football defeated Marlboro on the road, 20-6, in the inaugural regular-season meeting between the two intradistrict programs. The two teams had previously met in a preseason tri-scrimmage with Colts Neck on March 19. This win elevates the Patriots to a record of 3-2.
Marlboro began the day with a touchdown in the first quarter, but its PAT failed. FTHS trailed 6-0 at the half before scoring all 20 unanswered points in the second half.
The leadership qualities of starting QB Skyler Rausch (So.) continued to show. On offense, she went 14 of 20 for 50 yards and 2 touchdowns passing. On the ground, she ran 10 times for 103 yards and another score. Additionally, on defense, she recorded 9 tackles, a team high.
“This game definitely had some good competition, and I was happy that we were able to get the win,” comments Rausch. “Our team was down at first, but then we came back and we were able to defeat them. I’m super proud of all of us, and I can’t wait for the next game.”
WR Chloe Glickman (Sr.) picked up where she left off. She caught 6 of Rausch’s passes for 35 yards and accounted for both passing touchdowns. She also recorded a tackle for loss defensively. WR Shiloh Harris (So.) also caught 6 passes for 60 yards in her return to action.
Joelle Ganon (Fr.) recorded the Patriots’ only sack on Marlboro QB Madelyn Budveit. Sihera Karce (Jr.) recorded 7 tackles (2nd most), while Harris had 5 tackles (3rd most).
It seems evident that Freehold Township vs. Marlboro Flag Football is destined to be one of the most exciting rivalries for years to come.
Freehold Township Flag Football will travel to West Long Branch to take on the Shore Regional Blue Devils on Friday, April 24, at 4 PM EST.
