Hello, everyone! Today, I will be reviewing the new Elvis concert movie and documentary, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. Let’s review!
So, EPiC obviously follows Elvis Presley. This film shows never-before-seen footage and recordings of his life from his side of the story. I typically don’t care for concert movies and find it pointless to go to a movie theater to see a concert. But this is an exception since I love Elvis. So I saw this, and… this is less of a film and more of a semi-documentary.
The concert footage is absolutely amazing, especially on the big screen based on how this was presented. The colors are very vibrant, the resolution is sharp, and the audio is excellent too. The restoration overall was fantastic. The footage included edited material from Elvis’s other concert movies and the films he acted in. The movie overall was super interesting.
My main issue was that there is not enough concert footage in this film, and the songs were not played in full since they intercut with Elvis’s narration and other clips throughout the performance. This makes me think the title is a bit misleading because there was really no full concert in this film. Although there is quite a bit of concert footage that has never been seen before, some of it has already been shared before in one format or another, just not in this quality. The footage is incredibly eye-opening though, and the surround sound is also very enveloping. This is undeniably an achievement in restoring footage that was in poor condition.
I hope they have a plan to restore these clips and release them with or without audio. That would be a dream for an Elvis fan like me. Overall, I thought it was phenomenal to see EPiC on the big screen, but I was expecting an alternate version of his other concert films. Instead, I got something that felt almost incomplete and could have been more, but I still really enjoyed it!
I’m gonna give EPiC a B+.
