Actor Eric Dane passed away at the age of 53 on February 19th at his home in California. His death comes just under a year after he announced he was diagnosed with ALS. The shocking announcement came from his family, his final days were surrounded by close family and friends.
In November, Dane filmed an interview conducted by Brad Falchuk. This interview was only to be released after his death. The interview included a message to his two daughters, Billie and Georgia as well as his Rebecca. He recalls his battle with ALS and gives four lessons he has learned. Those four lessons included, live in the present, fall in love, choose your friends wisely, and fight with everything you have and with dignity.
During his battle with ALS, Eric Dane was a public advocate for treatment, research, and awareness for the disease. He wanted to make as much of a difference as he could to other people who were dealing with the same illness. A GoFundMe page was created shortly after his passing to help provide for his family as well as advocating and funding research for ALS, which is also known as Lou Gherig’s Disease.
Dane was best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy and playing Cal Jacobs in Euphoria as well as many other prominent roles. He made his television debut at 19 as a guest appearance in the sitcom, Saved by the Bell and since then he has become a household name all over America and the world.
A flood of heartbreaking tributes have come out in response to Dane’s passing. Fellow actors including Ashton Kutcher, Selma Blair, John Stamos, Patrick Dempsey, as well as many others. Many of these stars spoke upon their relationship with Dane and how they not only changed the set that they worked on together but also created a close bond between them. Eric Dane was 53 years old, he leaves behind two daughters, Georgia and Billie, and his wife, Rebecca.
