Welcome, everybody! Today, I will be reviewing the new movie directed by the famous YouTuber Markiplier, Iron Lung. Let’s review!
Based on the indie game of the same name, Iron Lung takes place in a post-apocalyptic future after an event known as “The Quiet Rapture.” A convict named Simon (Markiplier) sets out to explore a blood river on a grim moon using a submarine entitled The Iron Lung. He uses the Iron Lung to search for missing planets and stars in space. Now, I had absolutely no idea this movie was coming out until a couple of weeks ago, but I love Markiplier, so I had to see it. I saw the movie, and I have to say… It’s not amazing, but it’s not bad either.
From the start, the movie is fairly slow and a little difficult to get through. The second half is what hooked me more. I was never super invested in the film, and I thought it was surprising that watching Markiplier get stuck in an incredibly small space for two hours could feel slow-moving. But I will admit, the acting is by far the best part of the movie. Markiplier was excellent in this and should really be proud of what he put into it.
Whenever the actors portrayed desperation, I got chills. The screams of characters yelling at others to do something were very chilling. Overall, the movie looks fantastic. However, the story comes with both good and bad elements. Some filmmaking choices are better than others, and I was genuinely confused at moments in the movie. That doesn’t happen super often for me because I usually sleep on things and understand them later, but I still haven’t figured out the parts that confused me.
Honestly, this movie isn’t my favorite, and that’s okay. The main reason I wanted to see it was to find out if Mark has what it takes to be an actor and director, and I believe he does. He should really be proud of what he has put into this movie. Overall, I’m glad I supported Iron Lung. I believe there should be more independent films like this, and I hope Mark makes more because I truly think he could be the next Keanu Reeves if he keeps this up.
I’m going to give Iron Lung a B-.
