Greetings, everybody! Today, we’re discussing the lineup of commercials and trailers shown during the Super Bowl. I will be writing two articles: one for commercials and one for trailers. Let’s go!
Alexaaaa+:
This ad promotes Alexa and stars Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky. He believes Alexa is out to get him and thinks it’s an AI planning to kill us all. Alexa is confused, thinking, “Why would I do that?” but Chris doesn’t trust her. I mean, to be fair, he did fight Ultron.

Unavailable (Squarespace):
Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos decided to make a Super Bowl commercial. Emma attempts to register a website, only to find out the domain is taken. She destroys a new laptop every time she gets the same answer, eventually burning everything and walking away as the ad ends. I thought this was very clever and felt very Lanthimos-like.

Pringleleo:
Sabrina Carpenter is tired of boys and decides she needs a man. So, she builds one out of Pringles, names him Pringleleo, and falls in love with him. He then gets tackled by a wave of fans, and all the Pringles fall apart. She’s sad but then eats a Pringle and feels a little better because she knew she was bound to eat him eventually. I love Sabrina and Pringles, so I thought this was cool and felt like something she’d do.

The More You Bosch:
This ad stars Guy Fieri and initially seems like an ordinary Super Bowl commercial centered on one guy. However, once people own Bosch products, he becomes so much more than ordinary, unleashing his inner Fieri.

Bananas (Instacart):
Ben Stiller and Benson Boone collaborated on an Instacart commercial. It’s about how Instacart lets you choose your own bananas. Spike Jonze directed this commercial, which feels intentionally out of sync, and I find that funny. They play an Italian pop duo that begins to “unpeel” because of sibling rivalry. And yes, Benson flips in this ad. I really liked it.

Raisin Bran:
This Raisin Bran commercial features William Shatner from Star Trek. The ad calls to mind his short-run sitcom titled $#! My Dad Says*. He announces himself as the Raisin Bran ambassador and jokes about having a shortened nickname: “Will Shat.”

The Choice:
Coca-Cola has trademarked its animated polar bears for years. While Coke can’t copyright an entire species, Pepsi decided to feature polar bears in this ad, revisiting the long-standing cola wars. I was surprised they were allowed to do this, and the Coldplay callback at the end was pretty shocking. I liked this one a lot.

Good Will Dunkin’:
This ad turns Good Will Hunting into a sitcom for a Dunkin’ commercial. Matt Damon isn’t present, but Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston are, along with Jason Alexander and Tom Brady. Ben Affleck in a Dunkin’ Super Bowl commercial is always awesome, from the “Dunkings” to this. Give me more of these!

Stop Livin’ on a Prayer:
This ad follows Key and McBride as entrepreneurs who start an insurance company. A customer believes it’s like State Farm, but it’s actually a very terrible insurance provider. I love Keegan and McBride, so I thought this ad was awesome. I’d love more of these, too!

Jurassic Park… Works:
This ad asks, “What would happen if Jurassic Park opened with no hiccups thanks to Xfinity?” It relies on footage from the beloved classic film Jurassic Park. Xfinity’s text support gets the park back up and running, and they believe they’re back in business. Very solid ad!
