Aloha, readers! Today, I’m going to be reviewing the new Sam Raimi horror dark comedy, Send Help. Let’s dive in!
Send Help follows the story of an employee (Rachel McAdams) and her boss (Dylan O’Brien), whom she absolutely despises. They get involved in a plane crash and end up stranded on a desert island as the only survivors. It’s up to them to overcome their past differences, work together to survive on the island, and make it out alive. Sam Raimi, the director of The Evil Dead, directs this new movie. When I saw the trailer, I thought it looked awesome and like a lot of fun… and I have to say, I had so much fun with this movie!
Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien give great performances and perfectly match each other’s energy. Rachel’s character, Linda, is easy to invest in from the beginning because of how her boss treats her. This film constantly prompts you to second-guess your feelings for different characters and their motivations as they struggle to survive on the island. There are also plenty of humorous moments throughout, which never take away from the story. Only Sam Raimi could come up with a film like this.
Sam Raimi does a fantastic job directing the movie. His work is top-notch and feels as sharp as his last horror film. The movie works especially well with a live audience, as the crowd’s reactions to certain scenes make the experience even better. The only downside is that some plot points feel predictable. While parts of the movie can be foreseen, there were still moments I didn’t see coming, which felt refreshing.
Overall, I have a feeling I’m going to revisit Send Help at some point, and this is definitely my kind of movie.
I’m going to give Send Help an A-.
