Two close championship games yielded winners who are very familiar with each other. So, first, let’s recap those games, and then talk about Super Bowl 60.
#1 Denver Broncos vs. #2 New England Patriots
Considering the Broncos had their backup quarterback in, they made this one an extremely close game. The Denver defense did a terrific job stopping the Patriots, who only scored thanks to a turnover from Jarrett Stidham. Speaking of Stidham, he led a great drive on the first possession of the game, scoring a touchdown. After that, he went silent, turning the ball over twice in terrible ways. New England was able to take advantage of a weak Broncos offense and would win the game 10-7. For Denver, it’s disappointing, but if Nix was in the gam,e I am certain they would have won. I’m even more certain the Broncos will be back next year. For the Patriots, they have completed the crazy turnaround and return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2019.
#1 Seattle Seahawks vs. #5 Los Angeles Rams
The Rams vs. Seahawks game was much more exciting. Both teams put on an offensive show, while also making key defensive stops. Matthew Stafford had 374 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Sam Darnold had 346 passing yards and three touchdowns. Puka Nacua had 9 receptions for 165 yards and a touchdown, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 10 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown. The point to make is that these teams were very evenly matched, from start to finish. Heading into the second half, the Seahawks led 17-13. Then in the third quarter, both teams traded touchdowns twice to make it a 31-27 game entering the fourth. However, instead of an explosive fourth quarter, neither team could find the endzone. The Rams put together a strong drive, reaching the red zone. But they chose to go for it on fourth down and did not convert. Seattle took over and would eventually punt the football. Los Angeles completed a 23-yard pass, then completed a 21-yard pass, but the clock expired after Nacua failed to step out of bounds, ending the game. The Seahawks held on to win 31-27, punching their ticket to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2015. The Rams have a lot of questions regarding Matthew Stafford’s future, but they had one heck of a season.
Super Bowl LX, Patriots vs. Seahawks. To anybody who knows football, this game was one of the best Super Bowls ever, 11 years ago. It ended terribly for the Seahawks, who threw a goal-line interception to Malcolm when they could have won the game with a Marshawn Lynch rushing touchdown. Now, they have a chance for revenge. This is going to be an interesting one, seeing as the Seahawks have been so dominant in the past weeks. But the Patriots have been able to beat the best defenses in the league in the Playoffs, making them a tough team to take down. The game will start at 6:30 on Sunday, February 8th.
My pick: I’m going with the Seahawks, they seem to outplay the Patriots on both ends of the field, and I can’t see them losing.
