Greetings, everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing a movie I recently realized I didn’t actually review when I said I would, and that movie is FNAF 2 (Five Nights at Freddy’s 2). Let’s go!
So, FNAF 2 picks up a year after the events of the first movie. Abby (Piper Rubio) misses her friends at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, so she runs away to reconnect with them. That leads to the unraveling of dark secrets about the place and the truth behind its hidden origins. I didn’t enjoy the first movie too much, but I did like the previews for this one, so I decided to give it a shot. I saw it, and I have to say… it’s not excellent, but it definitely is an improvement over the first.
It feels like the best example of having a FNAF fever dream because this movie can be quite random. One big flaw I had with the first movie was that it wasn’t scary at all. This movie is a bit scary, but not too scary, mostly at the beginning. The introduction is ridiculous, but good. But then, since I don’t do spoilers, I’ll just say that a scene happens later that left me scratching my head after seeing the first movie.
The timeline is also all over the place. There’s one guy (not saying his name), William Afton, chasing Vanessa, and then he finds another thing?! Oh, and I found the ending hilarious, like the kind of thing you’d find in those health bar YouTube videos, if people still do those. The design of the animatronics is absolutely phenomenal. Having the pleasure of looking at these for an hour and a half to two hours is the best part of this movie.
The story was an interesting mix of technology and ghosts, but not the best combination. The character writing wasn’t bad, and the characters were entertaining to watch, but not amazingly executed. The cinematography was quite good, and the movie overall was certainly a slight adrenaline rush. It suffers from similar issues to the first, and the ending is super anticlimactic, but I get that they had to make viewers excited about the next installment. Overall, FNAF 2 does well at answering questions, but it also adds some.
I’m going to give FNAF 2 a B-.
