Hey guys! Today, I’m gonna review the new horror movie, Primate. Let’s do it!

The story follows a group of friends. They’re all girls, and they go on a tropical vacation. That vacation soon turns into a terrifying tale of survival thanks to the work of Ben, a chimpanzee who becomes rabid after getting bitten by a mongoose. When I saw the trailer for this, I thought it would be absolutely terrible, but then I saw the reviews saying it was really good. So I decided to check it out, and let me say… this is quite a great start to 2026!

Primate is SO FUN!! Absolutely brutal kills, and it utilizes lots of practical effects. Great score, and it elevates a lot of scenes. Ben is genuinely intimidating and creepy, and his actor did fantastic. It’s really just a very creative movie in how it builds tension and how they utilize their father in the movie (won’t spoil).

My only problems with this movie are that the characters and dialogue can get insufferable at times. Also, I wanted to know more about the characters I liked right before the chaos began to unfold. There are also a couple of dumb character decisions, but then again, it’s a horror movie. There was lots of dark lighting, and I see why they shot it like that for the monkey suit, but it’s quite noticeable. Still, I enjoyed this.

One thing about this movie that brought up my rating was the experience. Every time I saw a kill, all I heard from my theater was “OH!” and “OUCH!” That’s how you know this movie was crazy! For an animal attack movie, this is actually super solid. Overall, I enjoyed Primate very much and thought it was a lot of fun.

I’m gonna give Primate a B+
