VMA Wrap-Up

Another week, another award show. On August 30th, MTV hosted their 32nd Video Music Awards (VMAs). With Miley Cyrus as the host, everyone knew things 01_miley-cyruswere not going to go well. She had a new outfit every time she arrived on stage and cursed every second. Her performance was everything and anything you could expect from Miley, and what made it worse was her new song that was debuted on this show called “Dooo It!” which has lyrics that are very explicit. Her outfits covered everything they needed to, but that was it; there was barely any fabric on her body.

Now onto the actual awards:

-Taylor Swift won Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for “Bad Blood” and Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for “Blank Space”

-Kanye West won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and Best Video with Social Message with his song “One Man Can Change the World”

-Fetty Wap won the Artist to Watch Award with his song “Trap Queen”

-Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson won Best Male Video for “Uptown Funk”

-OK Go won Best Choreography for “I Won’t Let You Down”

-Nicki Minaj won Best Hip-Hop Video for her song “Anaconda”

-Kendrick Lamar won Best Direction for his song “Alright” and Best Cinematography for “Never Catch Me”

-Justin Bieber won Best Visual Effects for the song “Where Are Ü Now”

-Beyoncé won Best Editing for “7/11”

-Snoop Dogg won Best Art Direction for “So Many Pros”

-5 Seconds of Summer won Song of the Summer for their new song “She’s Kinda Hot”

-Fall Out Boy won Best Rock Video for “Uma Thurman”

The show had some stellar performances that included Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, Macklemore, Demi Lovato and Iggy Azalea, Justin Bieber and Pharrell Williams.  Everyone looked their best while performing their newest single on the VMA stage. The biggest shock of the night was when Justin Bieber was finished singing his new song “What Do You Mean” and started crying in front of the audience and the cameras. After that, Miley Cyrus had to ruin the moment by interrupting him looking like a huge ball of tinsel.

The fashion of this awards show had people disagreeing left and right. Taylor Swift’s outfit looked like a bedazzled pajama set while Nick Jonas looked sharp in his all leather Versace pants and jacket. Some people thought Demi Lovato looked like a pink rubber tire in her red carpet dress and others thought Kim Kardashian looked like that caterpillar from “A Bug’s Life.” Freshman Lindsey Ruderman described how she felt about Hailee Steinfeld’s outfit, “I liked the white jumpsuit, but hated her sleeked back hair and her gold neck cuff.”  There were a lot of hit and misses this year on the red carpet.

To make fun of Kayne stealing Taylor Swift’s mic a couple year back, Taylor presented Kanye with his Michael Jackson award. The speech ended up lasting 13 headache-causing minutes, especially because Kayne announced he was going to run for president in 2020. Kayne for President!!!!

To end this interesting award show, Miley Cyrus comes out for a surprise performance in a one legged leotard with eyes to cover her chest. She starts cursing with every word, as usual, with her new song, that she released that night.

Overall, the 2015 VMAs was not the best award show MTV has hosted.  Better luck next year!
