It is safe to say that we have been treated to some elite college football games, one of them being Miami vs. Ole Miss. In the case of Indiana’s domination over Oregon, they are approaching talks of one of the more dominant college football teams of recent memory. So, let’s recap those two games, and then discuss the championship game, which should be extremely exciting.
Vrbo Fiesta Bowl: #10 Miami Hurricanes vs. #6 Ole Miss Rebels
This was a close game the whole way, with the biggest lead at a time being seven points. Ole Miss took the lead in the fourth quarter with seven minutes remaining, and then spectators were treated to an amazing final seven minutes. Miami charged down the field and scored a touchdown in under two minutes, then the Rebels did the same to go back up 27-24. The Hurricanes put up a strong drive, getting into the endzone with eighteen seconds left to take a 31-27 lead. The Canes would win the game 31-27, led by three touchdowns from QB Carson Beck. Ole Miss put up an incredible fight, considering they lost their head coach during the season, but Miami was too much for them. Mario Cristobal’s squad will go to the championship for the first time in over twenty years.
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl: #1 Indiana Hoosiers vs. #5 Oregon Ducks
Considering the matchup earlier this year was close, this game was expected to be a relatively even matchup. Instead, Indiana wiped the floor with Oregon, dominating them 56-22. Indiana forced three turnovers in the first half, and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza had five passing touchdowns. The game was never close, highlighted by Indiana scoring five straight touchdowns at the midway point. The Hoosiers will move on to the championship and look to secure their first title ever.
The Matchup: Miami vs. Indiana
This year features an interesting matchup between the best team in college football, Indiana, and the defensively dominant Miami. Indiana is the overwhelming favorite, and they are looking to put their name in the history books as an undefeated champion of college football. Meanwhile, Miami plays an elite defense, especially their pass rush – but they have shown they can be a great offensive team as well. For Miami to win, they are going to need their defense to click, despite a shaky defensive performance, and to limit their penalties. For Indiana, they simply have to do what they have been doing all year: dominate. The game will take place on January 19th at 7:30 PM on ESPN.
