What’s up, Pat Nation? It’s me, AJ, once again, and today I’m gonna be reviewing the new Disney film Zootopia 2, aka the fastest animated movie to reach a billion dollars. Let’s go!
This new Zootopia movie follows Nick and Judy once again, and this time they find themselves solving the mystery of Gary De’Snake and turning the animal metropolis upside down. Judy and Nick must go undercover in mysterious parts of Zootopia to crack the case, and their partnership is really put to the test. When I saw the trailer, I was a little worried. The first movie was a shocking surprise, and I feared this would be another Disney cash-grab sequel. But I had heard excellent things, so I saw it, and I have to say… this is a great movie!!
Zootopia 2 restores Disney to its former glory with a sequel that’s surprisingly high quality and doesn’t just copy the original while sticking to the same strengths. It’s a very funny, fast-paced adventure with great characters. A lot of Disney’s new content has been substandard, and Bob Iger’s pledge to insert AI into streaming feels like an insult to cinema and a spit in the face of the creativity that Walt imbued into this company. But, with all that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! Disney’s best sequel in years!
I’m happy to see Nick and Judy again, and everything surrounding them is enjoyable—from the immersive world-building of Zootopia to the excellent comedic timing, especially from Nick and the mayor. It doesn’t fall into the annoying trend of new movies feeling like sterile products meant only to satisfy viewers and make a quick buck. The performances from Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman are once again perfectly cast, perfectly paired, and deliver a super fun, entertaining performance. The director seems to get what people want in a Disney sequel, and I hope he directs more. Overall, Zootopia 2 is Disney’s best animated film in years, and the studio seems to have the sauce when it comes to taking a break from remakes and actually understanding the assignment.
I’m gonna give Zootopia 2 an A-.
