What’s up, Pat nation? Today, I’m gonna be reviewing the new Brendan Fraser film, Rental Family. Let’s go!
Rental Family follows the story of Philip Vanderploag (Brendan Fraser), an American actor in Tokyo who struggles to find a purpose and lands a rather unorthodox role/gig. He’s working for a “Rental Family” agency in Japan, where you play a stand-in role for strangers and for people who are seeking specific figures in their lives. He gets the role of a father figure, where he rediscovers the purpose of belonging to someone, and he discovers the beauty and significance of human connection.
This is Brendan Fraser’s new movie from director Hikari, who was one of the directors on the Netflix mini-series Beef. I originally was gonna wait for this movie to come to streaming because I wasn’t really sure how this movie would turn out. Then I kept hearing very positive reviews for this film, and I decided to give it a shot. I went to go see this movie, and after I saw it… I absolutely adored it!!!!!! I totally loved this movie!
Rental Family is an absolutely incredible film! From the acting, to the cinematography, to the relationships and chemistry Brendan Fraser builds with the family, it was beautiful. The characters’ dynamic had me drawn in from start to finish, and I cared about every single one of them. Brendan Fraser delivers an unforgettable, deeply moving performance that feels like you’re being wrapped in a warm blanket. This film also made me want to go to Japan!
The film’s setting was very beautiful, and it’s a very visually pleasing movie. All the cities and small details were breathtaking. This movie has something for everyone. It’s moving, entertaining, and stays with you. Overall, I loved Rental Family, and I highly recommend you watch it.
I’m gonna give Rental Family an A+.
