What’s up, Pat Nation! It’s me again, and today I’m gonna be reviewing The Running Man. Let’s get started!
The Running Man has been one of my most anticipated movies of the year. The first Running Man, starring Schwarzenegger, is indeed a cult classic movie that I personally dislike. I think it’s too primitive. When I heard this was based more on the book that I haven’t read, I was intrigued, but hoping it wouldn’t be another Total Recall. The reviews don’t seem to be very fond of the movie, but I gotta be honest, I liked it, and it certainly delivered on the ’80s aspect!
Glen Powell as Ben Richards plays a down-on-his-luck and insubordinate character whose family gets blacklisted, leading him to have no other choice but to join The Running Man to afford medication for his sick daughter. He is a good fit for Ben, and Colman Domingo as Bobby T, the host of the show, was great. His character hammers it all the way through and works alongside Josh Brolin as Dan Killian (the shady producer of the network). It’s a well acted, decent-looking movie with very fun action scenes that make you feel the weight of Glen’s character Ben evading the hunters that try to execute him.
The reviews for this are extremely mixed, and some just overall hate the movie. I think it’s different from what we’re used to seeing from Edgar Wright, but does that make it a bad movie in my opinion? No! This isn’t a thinker’s movie; this is a turn-your-brain-off, popcorn action flick to be entertained by for two hours, and that is indeed what I got. There was also some political commentary, which was pretty inclusive about society.
Overall, I liked The Running Man, and don’t listen to the reviews—I say give it a shot. I’m gonna give The Running Man a 4/5. Stay tuned for my review on Rental Family, and stay classy, Patriot Nation!
