Welcome everybody! Today, I’ll be reviewing Wicked: For Good. This was probably my most anticipated movie of the year, and I have gotten to see the second part of this film twice, actually. I decided to review this after my second watch, so I could adequately articulate my thoughts. The critical reviews on this movie have been quite mixed, but these are my opinions:
Is it better than the first? Absolutely not. Is it still a good movie? Absolutely, it is!
I’m not gonna drop any spoilers, but the biggest complaint that the film is currently receiving is that it feels disjointed. If anyone has seen the musical in any shape or form, they would know that both acts are from different worlds. The first act of the movie tells the story of Elphaba, feels more upbeat, and delves more into the Wicked aspect. The second act is more serious and melancholic, tells a lot more about Glinda, and delves more into The Wizard of Oz. Both parts are played excellently, especially by Ariana Grande, who I’m very glad got nominated for a Golden Globe.
One of my biggest cons about the movie is that the songs have nowhere near as much impact as the first, but “No Good Deed” is a top 3 Wicked movie song. It is done amazingly in this movie, and in my opinion, better than the Broadway version. I might have to go back and rewatch these movies back-to-back, double-feature style, to see how they would blend. It might even work better that way. Overall, Wicked: For Good is not as good as the first part in my opinion, but it is still a great movie.
I’m gonna give Wicked: For Good a 4/5.
