When mankind is threatened by a rogue robot who threatens to wipe out the human race, the Avengers are called together for yet another battle against evil. Marvel delivers up a sequel that includes all of the same superheros and a few more.

I’m not a huge superhero enthusiast, but I know enough to come out and say that this movie was just not as good as the first Avengers. Not to say it wasn’t a good movie, it just didn’t convey the same meaning or bring that wow factor that was brought about in the other movie. The premise of the storyline seems a little dried out and over used: “a villain is threatening mankind so we have to destroy him!”… been there, done that.

Let’s talk about our villain. His name is Ultron, and he is created by Tony Stark as a result of a global defense experiment gone wrong. Utron is made out of the same metal that is in Captain America’s shield, so he’s kind of scary because he is basically indestructible. But his character doesn’t have the same overly snarky evil qualities that a good villain should, and his plan to destroy mankind is kind of stupid. Instead of using his all-knowing computer powers to wipe out humanity easily, he comes up with a grand plan to levitate a European city and then send it crashing down to Earth to extinguish all life.  Not only that, but the action scenes are not remarkable either. Ultron and his army of robots don’t seem to pose any threat to the Avengers crew, so these scenes are a bit disappointing.

Although the villainous characteristics of Ultron are not impressive, the other characters’ dynamics and interactions are heart warming. The rebuilding of the Avengers creates the nostalgic feeling of getting the band back together for one last fight, and thats always fun to see. The same wisecracks and recurring jokes exist throughout the movie, giving us that old familiar feeling again that doesn’t seem overused.

New characters make appearances, such as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and they add depth to the story. Overall, the movie is just what one would expect out of a sequel to an awe-inspiring movie. Avengers: Age of Ultron didn’t have the most mind-blowing structure or vigor, but the sentimental feelings the characters bring about is enough to make it a success.
