Last year’s Gingerbread House Party was a huge success!

What better way to kick off the holiday season than with a food drive? Every year the Octagon Club gets the entire school involved in a food drive by creating a competition between each homeroom to see who can donate the most food. The winning homeroom will receive a free breakfast. Additionally, all the food that will be collected will go straight to the food bank where it will then be distributed throughout New Jersey to those in need. The Octagon Club is hoping that everyone tries to get involved.

Also, Octagon is teaming up with Project Little Soldier’s annual toy drive. In order to participate, any student, whether or not he or she is in the club, can go to room C106 and take a tag off the Octagon bulletin board. Written on the tag will be a toy for a boy or girl of a certain age that the student will have to purchase to donate. Gifts do not have to be wrapped but they are due to Mrs. LaPlaga by December 11th. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Additionally, on Wednesday December 10th, Octagon will be volunteering at the Gingerbread House Party. The event is sponsored by Love, Annaleigh, an organization that benefits St. Peter’s University Hospital NICU & PICU and will be hosted at FTHS. The volunteers from Octagon will be helping all the children build their gingerbread houses using a variety of candies and sweets. Additionally, there will be a DJ, prizes for various age groups, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and lots of holiday cheer! Tickets are $7 for kids and $2 for adults and are available at the door.

Octagon members are getting involved in as much as they can this holiday season. On December 13th, Octagon will be sending volunteers to Belmar for the 19th Annual Coat Sort off! The event is sponsored by Jersey Cares, who aims to keep New Jersey warm by distributing over 35,000 coats. Therefore, volunteers will be helping to sort through donated coats as well as donating some coat of their own.

The Octagon Club is taking volunteering to a whole new level. This year the Octagon Club decided to sell Octagon t-shirts to help raise money for FTHS’s PEP program so that they can continue to host dances and activities for their members. Octagon is also donating some of the proceeds to another charitable organization as well. Everyone is encouraged to order a t-shirt, they cost $10 and forms are due by December 9th to Mrs. LaPlaga. Order forms can be picked up in C106 or downloaded from the Octagon Edmodo page. Help make a difference and get involved with Octagon Club today!
