Song of the Week: Concert Pitch by Empire of the Sun

Melissa Ng, Columnist

Their album covers look like paintings; fantasy video game ads in which characters fight off dragons and protect jewels. Their style of music and visual art resemble scenes from a Comic-Con convention. Yet Empire of the Sun’s music is just as intricate as their form and the energy levels are high at their live performances.

The extravagant group is actually an Australian duo formed in 2007 that prefer to be known as Emperor Steele and Lord Little More. Their debut album “Walking on A Dream” was certified double platinum in Australia; the group has also won numerous Australian music awards. They are mainly on the “glam pop” or “synthpop” side, but touches on the edges of EDM with electronic pulses.

Concert Pitch” by Empire of the Sun is an upbeat, energetic tune. The song is a string of epic synths, euphoric pop melodies and is described as a “dance floor’s communal elevation.” A good, but simple word to describe the song is “fun”; it will automatically put you into a good mood.
