- Dreamworks: Orion and The Dark (Coming on February 2nd 2024) – Trailer
Dreamworks have been making some really big headlines in animation. Last year they released the massive and successful The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This year, however, they released the critical and box office flop of Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken and the new Trolls: Band Together. However, next year, Dreamworks will be going dark. They will be going so dark, so much that the main character is the true darkness. This film will actually be a comedy, fantasy and adventure movie, which is based on a book written by Emma Yarrett. Sean Charmatz will be directing the movie while the producer will be Peter McCown. The movie will be about a boy named Orion, who is scared of lots of things. Most of all, he is scared of the dark. One night, the dark takes Orion on an Incredible journey. The movie is to be a hit with families and will be one of two (as of now) Dreamworks movies coming in 2024.
On the topic: Amblin and Dreamworks are also working on a CGI animated spinoff series to Jurassic World – Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (2024)
A collaboration between Japanese studio Tsburya productions, Netflix Animation and ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) will be creating a new CGI Animated movie: Ultraman Rising (2024) based on the franchise: Ultraman.
- Masters of the Universe: Revolution (Coming on January 25th 2024) – Teaser
Toy company Mattel who own Hot Wheels, Barbie, Thomas the Tank Engine and The Masters of the Universe have tried to reboot He-Man many times with Netflix. We have seen three reboots (Including this one.) We had the extraordinarily mixed to negatively reviewed Masters of the Universe Revelation, which was animated by Powerhouse animation (Same people who animated Castevania and Sega animated content). The same reception to the more family friendly CGI He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. It just seemed like Netflix and Mattel could not get a hit. Netflix even canceled a potential film based on the characters. Dreamworks did make the more successful She-Ra Princess of Power, but He-Man did not get that same success. However, 2024 will be He-Man’s 3rd Chance. Third time is usually the charm, after all. We now have a better idea of the plot, tone, and animation. It has the same beautiful style from Revelation in terms of animation, but the story will be different. Teela, a new character, will be Joining the He-Man and The Masters of the Universe and to save Enteria. We will see how critical reception this show will actually be, as many have been waiting for the return of the Masters of The Universe.
3.Scott Pilgrim Takes Off – (Final Trailer) – You Can Watch It Right Now!!!!!
Ever since the 2004 comic Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley released, Scott Pilgrim has been a unique franchise. We had 2010’s Universal’s Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, 2010’s Ubisoft Scott Pilgrim vs the World:The game, which was a side-scrolling beat-em up’,and so many more comics/graphic novels. Recently, in 2023, Netflix Animation alongside Japanese studio Science Seru and Universal Content Productions has developed and released an anime styled series based on the franchise . The series will be an adaptation of the story with the same artstyle as the original comics, graphic novels, and game. Some of the cast are returning from the movie as well! Some of the role repairals will be; Micheal Cera as Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, and even Chris Evans as Lucas Lee. The Story of this Romance/Action has musician Scott Pilgrim meeting a beautiful woman Ramona Flowers. However, he has to fight and beat seven of her evil ex boyfriends and if he wants to date her. He must fight alongside Ramona and defeat her original boyfriends. This will be an 8 episode series and with the positive reception of the movie and comics, this could be a unique hit among fans and newcomers alike.
On the topic :Terminator got a very brief teaser for an upcoming anime from Production I.G
Called: Terminator: The Anime Series (Unknown release date)
- Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part 1 – Children of Fire (trailer) – (coming on December 22nd 2023)
Zack Snyder has directed a wide variety of movies. He is perhaps best known for his D.C. movies. He has made movies such as Watchmen, Batman Vs Superman, Man of Steel, and the Snyder cut of Justice League. He has also made original films such as Army of the Dead, 300, Sucker Punch, Legend of the Guardians, and Dawn of the Dead. Army of the Dead was Zack’s first Netflix original after getting fired from Warner Brothers. Now, Zack is making a deal with the streaming service juggernaut of Netflix and is going to produce productions for the streaming service. However, it is very unlikely there will be any D.C movies or Justice League sequels. Against the odds, Zack does have a major project with 2023’s Rebel Moon, a sci-fi epic with actors including Sofia Boutella as main character Kora, and Charlie Hunuam plays the role of Kai. As the title suggests, Rebel Moon could be a new franchise, with some saying this could be the next big sci-fi franchise like Star Wars and Star Trek. The story of this Sci-FI epic is about a colony being threatened by armies of the tyrannical regent Bailarius. The colony dispatches and orders a young woman named Kora to seek out warriors from other planets to save her colony. This is the most exciting production we’ve seen from Zack Snyder in a very long time, and could even start a major new franchise.
On the topic: If you don’t have a Netflix account, Rebel Moon will have a limited release in theaters on December 15th 2023
- Avatar: The Last Airbender (Live action) – trailer – (coming on February 22nd 2024)
Nickelodeon’s Avatar the Last Airbender is one of the most iconic cartoons of the 2000’s. Premiering in 2005 through 2008, the franchise would get some positive reviews and would get a spinoff and a movie. There was the 2010 negatively reviewed live action movie adaptation; The Last Airbender directed by M. Night Shyamalan. There was also the mixed to positively reviewed 2012 spinoff Legend Of Korra. Nickelodeon has been capitalizing on many of their franchises from past to present including Spongebob, Rugrats, Blue’s Clues, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Avatar is no exception as Nickelodeon has been setting up a new studio to create Avatar content with this upcoming release being the first production. Avatar: The Last Airbender or “Avatar 2024” is a complete retelling of the original series with new cast such as Gordon Corminer as Aang, Kiawentillo Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. Unlike the 2010 movie, the 2024 series will be more faithful towards the original series with the story of both the 2005 and 2024 series being about the Nations of Water, Earth, Fire and Air. Long ago, it was peaceful. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked, only one person, being the Avatar who masters fire, water, earth and air can stop the Attacks. “But, when the world needed him most, he vanished”. The characters Sokka and Katara found a new Avatar named Aang who will possibly Stop the Fire Nation. The new series will be directed by Jet Wilkson with each episode costing 15 million to produce. Avatar is still very relevant. In 2020, it had the top content in a very long time. This will “hopefully” be a great new iteration of this classic series and a new way to experience the Avatar.
