Song of the Week: “Roses” by The Chainsmokers

Melissa Ng, Columnist

This week’s song is a bit more well known. The single #SELFIE is what The Chainsmokers are most known for, but they refuse to let it define them. Roses by The Chainsmokers is their strongest song yet; it shows that the group is starting to blossom by experimenting with a different sound than their other released music. The vocals are performed by artist ROZES (which makes a fitting song title) and are laid on top of a futuristic bass soundscape track.

The Chainsmokers are an American EDM DJ duo formed in 2012. They began their career by remixing indie bands, but released their first single in 2013. ROZES is a 22 year old artist with a diverse emotional plate. She “shows us the dark minds of the passionate, the anxieties of the lovers, and the coping of the broken.”

The lyrics and beat are as pretty as the title implies. The Chainsmokers are now venturing into a world of Future bass and are succeeding by doing so. The song is filled with colour and depth; the vibes of the song are refreshing. Fall into the perfect daydream whether it be your first time listening or your hundredth; no matter what the song flourishes with beautiful beats.
