Erica’s Friday Playlist: 12/2/16

Erica Singh, Staff Writer

Hi! I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself before getting started. My name is Erica Singh. I’m a junior and I love music. I love listening to it, I love writing about it. I just like connecting with the vibes they give me. Every Friday, I am going to give you a playlist of all of my favorite songs I listen to, along with a description of them so you can learn about them. I hope this can get you into different genres of music or to start liking a certain band or artist. Here is my playlist, I hope you enjoy!

“Message Man” by Twenty One Pilots
This song is and just simply amazing. The lead singer, Tyler Joseph, explains throughout the song how he is a different type of artist than the rest. He explains how nobody truly knows him. Tyler is struggling to search for the hope that he desperately needs. He even states, “Your brain knows to keep going even though hope is far from this moment, but you and I know it gets better when morning finally rears its head.” He is connecting with the fans that also struggle with the same thing, and towards the end of the song he basically says that it gets better just keep going.

“In The Name Of Love” by Martin Garrix and Bebe Rexha
This is more of an EDM type of song, but the lyrics question if someone would do a bunch of different wild things for love. The singer, Bebe Rexha, explains how she would do all of those crazy things because she is in love with the person she’s singing about.

“Cancer” by My Chemical Romance (Cover By Twenty One Pilots)
I already know there will be people that are going to be upset that I’ve decided to use the cover by Twenty One Pilots. I am a HUGE My Chemical Romance fan as well as Twenty One Pilots and I just simply enjoy Twenty One Pilots’ cover of it because it’s like my two favorite bands did a collaboration and I just love the concept of that song. Anyways, the song is a very slow and sad song talking about how a person was diagnosed with cancer and is slowly fading. The person knows they’re going to die and they have pretty much come to terms with it. When listening to it, it’s 100% guaranteed you’ll cry.

“Dive In” by Pierce The Veil
This has got to be my favorite song Pierce The Veil has made so far. The lead singer explained how this fast pace track is the song that describes who they are, if you had a friend who wanted to know what type of music Pierce The Veil makes, you would show them this song because it’s almost like a summary of what they put out there (which I agree with).

“A Trophy Father’s Trophy Son” by Sleeping With Sirens
This song is truly flawless. The lead singer Kellin Quinn, explains and questions where “his” father is, i’m using quotations around that because nobody truly knows who he’s talking about. This song wraps around the idea of a father leaving the family and the child of the father is questioning the reason they left because they wish he didn’t leave.
