Song of the Week: Something Good Can Work by Two Door Cinema Club

Melissa Ng, Columnist

This is to honor one of my all time favourite bands, Two Door Cinema Club. They have finally come back to life after being M.I.A. for a little more than two years. They began by announcing on social media that they will be playing a few festivals to kick off their return, such as Hurricane, Governors Ball and even Firefly. TDCC blessed us with a Facebook post saying that they were, “Looking forward to sharing new music, new shows, new everything” with us in 2016. This year is already heading in the right direction.

TDCC is an alternative Irish band forming in 2007. Their progression and maturity is much noticed in their second album Beacon (2012) compared to their bubbly, popish first album, Tourist History (2010). They experienced with different tempos, sounds and synths. Tourist History was also chosen for the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year.

“Something Good Can Work” by Two Door Cinema Club is a good introduction to get comfortable with the sound of the band. It begins with a few simple guitar plucks, and then layered with bass, drums, etc. A few days ago, this song came on shuffle on iTunes and instantly changed my mood. Whenever I listen to this band it makes it feel as though the sun is shining and nothing can go wrong, everything will be okay. It’s the type of music you fall in love with right away; it’s the song you hear in public and Google the lyrics the second you can.
