“Sympathy” – Vampire Weekend

“Sympathy” is the eleventh track on Vampire Weekend’s latest album, “Father of The Bride”. The song tells a story of religion. And f that doesn’t sound interesting just yet, just you wait. The track takes on the band’s signature alternative sound, but it also exhibits a new spanish sound. This unique sound is born with the use of a spanish guitar, and heavy drums. The beat and tune of the song is extremely catchy. It will leave you humming the lyrics, “Now we’ve got that sympathy/What I’m to you, you are to me/Let’s go” all day! You should listen to this tune is you like music with spanish influences, or alternative music.

“Small Victories” – The Lemon Twigs

After hearing this song for the first time, The Lemon Twigs quickly grew to become one of my favorite bands. Their track “Small Victories” became one of the group’s most popular songs after they performed it on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in 2018. The tune consists of an amazing guitar solo and amazing vocals by Brian D’Addario. His brother, Michael D’Addario, also does a wonderful job on the drums and the background vocals. The tune has a strong 1970’s influence, due to the band’s father being a fairly successful singer during that time. The track contains lyrics such as, “Everything is looking scary/But the lot around me feel no pain/They live their days in mass delusion/While I coddle my seclusion” which talk about feeling disillusioned with society. You should listen to this song if you like music inspired by the 1970’s, or music with lyrics that make you think!

“I Follow You” – Melody’s Echo Chamber

Melody’s Echo Chamber is the stage name of French psychedelic pop singer Melody Prochet. Her song “I Follow You” was produced by the lead singer of the band Tame Impala, Kevin Parker. Excited yet? The tune has an enchanting melody(no pun intended!), and it is a lovely blend of psychedelic sounds and whimsical pop. In this self written track, Melody sings of her own personal struggles. She laments about her own self worth, her mistakes, and her hopes for the future. All of these seemingly dark lyrics still appear to have a hopeful undertone, due to the eccentric style of the instrumentals. You should listen to this song if you like catchy melodies, or bubbly and psychedelic music.

“Awkward” – San Cisco

“Awkward” by San Cisco is a bubbly indie pop tune that tells the story of a failed date. The entire song is a lovely duet between band members Jordi Davieson and Scarlett Stevens. While singing, the two have great vocal chemistry and are able to harmonize very nicely. The track contains lyrics such as, “I saw you at dinner last night/You were holding his hand I’ve been watching you for days/I thought I saw you last night/Get out of my life you’ve been stalking me for days”, which display the sinister concept of idealism. In addition this this, their seemingly simple music video keeps up with the dark concept of the song, in which Davieson serenades a bored Stevens. You should listen to this song if you like indie pop music, or great harmonies!
