The FTHS Octagon club is starting the new school year off strong with nearly every weekend of October booked with community service events.

On Friday October 10, FTHS’s Octagon club volunteered at Griebling Elementary School’s annual kindergarten social. The purpose of the social is for the kindergarteners to get to know each other and to make new friends. The members of Octagon helped to set up and run games and activities for the kindergarteners. Some of the talented new members volunteered to help face paint and give tattoos. The students also assisted the Griebling PTA in hanging up decorations, setting tables, and cleaning up after a long night of fun. Overall the night was a huge success and the Octagon volunteers did an amazing job.

The next Octagon event will be Saturday October 2 at Point Pleasant. Over 50 Octagon members signed up to participate in Clean Ocean Action’s annual beach sweep. Students are willingly waking up and driving to the beach at 9 a.m. to help clean up the Jersey Shore. The Octagon club has so many dedicated and selfless members that are always looking for new ways to get involved with the community.

Another upcoming event that Octagon will be attending this month is Trunk-or-Treat. Trunk-or-Treat is a Halloween event held at Griebling Elementary school where parents decorate their car trunks with different themes and then the children go and trick or treat from one car to the next. The event will be on October 26th, and Octagon has already hit the maximum number of volunteers they can send.

The Octagon club has the ability to participate in all of these events because of the overwhelming amount of members in the club. There is no doubt that the Octagon volunteers are going to do great things in the future.
