Assimilating to high school is a hard task, even if you are a freshman who starts off on the first day of school, but to do it as a student in an older class is an even bigger feat. Transferring high schools, although scary, is a reality that can end up being not so bad at all. Recently, the Patriot Press sat down with Varun Kapoor, a tenth grader, who has been at FTHS for half a year now. He provided us with insight about his transition and what helped.

Q: What school/town did you originally transfer from? How did it differ from FTHS?

A: Edison High School. It differed because rules were more punctilious there.  Over here, it is more relaxed.

Q: Describe your first day at FTHS. Were you nervous? What was good/bad?

A: I wasn’t nervous. It was a good day.

Q: What was your biggest fear about FTHS? Did it disappear? If so, how?

A: My biggest fear about FTHS was assimilating too much and becoming normal or average, for I have always wanted to be different. It changed when in engineering club, I became a lead designer for wheels and body of a 3D printed car.

Q: Who/what was the most helpful in your assimilation into FTHS? Why? (you can have more than one)

A: The transfer-student group because it explained which clubs I should join.

Q: Now that we are halfway through the school year, how have things changed since the beginning? Do you find yourself having an easier time? Explain.

A: The only thing that has changed since the beginning of the year is how hard I worked. I used to have a hard time because I did my work too fast and in a hurry.

Q: What extracurricular activities have you joined? Did these aid your transition into FTHS?

A: I joined Track, TSA, Engineering Club, and Science League. It aided my transition to DTHS by helping make new friends

Q: What are your plans for the next 2 years?

A: Get into some major AP courses; Get into an Ivy League college; Get close to a 1600 on the PSAT and SAT

Q: What advice would you give to students who are transferring to FTHS?

A: You’ll be fine!
