Apple’s Latest Invention: Battery Cases

Deryn Younger, Staff Writer

Just when we all thought that Apple couldn’t get any more high-tech, it has!  While some are not so pleased with the new line of iPhone cases, Apple’s new cases may actually be worth using.

Released by Apple only in early December, the “Smart Battery Case,” as the company calls it, was made for the iPhone 6 and 6s.  The case allows your phone to charge itself, which can be helpful if you are ever in a situation where you can’t find an outlet.  However, you will need to remember to charge your battery case if you want it to work– which, let’s face it, may be difficult since so many of us forget to charge our phones after a long day.  The case is able to run up to 25 hours for talk time and 18 hours for Internet usage while on LTE.

While made for longer battery life, the case is also protective and feels nice to have on your phone.  The inside is made out of a microfiber lining that adds an inner layer of protection to the case, while the outside is made of elastomer (a fancy name for rubber).  It has a hinge design that enables the case to be removed and placed on the phone easily, which ensures that the battery won’t bend or snap.  In addition to all of these features, the outside of the phone feels smooth on your hands, which is always a good thing.

Finally, the cases come in either black or white to match the face of the iPhone.  They can be purchased for $99 dollars on Apple’s website, apple.com, or anywhere else that Apple products are sold.  So if you know someone who is always losing battery fast, this could be the perfect holiday gift for them!  Or maybe even yourself….
