The Octagon Club always seems to be busy with new events every month. During the month of January, Octagon volunteers worked with Habitat for Humanity for the Monmouth County’s ReStore’s grand opening. Volunteers helped to move furniture, clean, and set up. On the day of the grand opening, Octagon volunteers were there bright and early to help out with the event. They helped to set up, welcome guests, hand out gifts, and to clean up. The Octagon club has formed a great relationship with Habitat for Humanity and they look forward to working with them again in the near future.

Also, Octagon teamed up with Girl Up for a book drive. The Birthday Book Club is a foundation that collects books to distribute to schools and individual children in the Asbury Park school system. With many generous donations from FTHS’s media center combined with donations from the students, the Octagon club and Girl Up collected over 100 books for the book drive. Overall, the book drive was a huge success and it will hopefully become an annual event for students to participate in. Also, Octagon and Girl Up teamed up again to make Valentine’s Day cards for Senior citizens. Members of both clubs came together after school and made so many beautiful cards for the Senior Citizens. Octagon and Girl Up have accomplished so much over the past few months.

Additionally, Octagon members volunteered at Griebling Elementary School’s Pizza-Bingo Night. Pizza-Bingo Night is a major fundraiser for the Elementary school. Volunteers were very busy since more than 50 families attended the event! The Octagon members were serving pizzas, putting desserts together, calling numbers, and checking bingo cards. Even though they were volunteering, the octagon members had a lot of fun helping out with bingo and that’s everyone’s favorite part about being in Octagon.

Octagon Club loves to help their community in any way they can. Last Friday, over a dozen octagon members volunteered next door at Erikkson Elementary school. The elementary school hosted its annual Fun Fair as a fundraiser for the school. Octagon volunteers helped to run games and activities for the kids, as well as serve food. Octagon member Ryan smith even won a Cake by playing “Cake Walk” with 8 elementary school students. When Ryan received his prize he stated, “ Cake walk isn’t meant for everyone, but it is meant for me!” Overall, everyone from the elementary school kids to the volunteers had a great time and the school raised a lot of money.
