Lady Gaga Fans, Meet Joanne

Lady Gaga Fans, Meet Joanne

Margaret Figliolino, Writer

Before October 21, 2016 Lady Gaga was known as the eccentric, flamboyant, meat-dress wearing, Madonna-wannabe musician. The music she produced was primarily pop that people heard repeated on the radio everyday. The thirty-year-old artist had established a name  for herself that had stuckthrough most of her music career. But when Joanne dropped on October 21 this year Gaga demolished all the presumptions regarding her new album and revealed a new side to herself.

The music on this album can be described as authentic, empowering and raw. Joanne ventures out into genres like country, rock, indie, funk and countless others. In only fourteen songs, she conveys human emotion that anyone can relate too.

Tracks off the album, like “Diamond Heart” and “Dancin’ in Circles” have the familiar pop vibes from Gaga’s classic songs that fans can appreciate. Gaga also includes songs like “Hey Girl” and “Come to Mama,” which both share messages of friendships and love. In these songs she communicates that conflict will result in “no future.” More personal and heartbreaking songs like “Joanne” and “Angel Down” present issues that have been at the forefront of this nation like sexual abuse and police brutality which she’s shown a lot of recent concern for. Gaga took problems that make America ugly and shaped beautiful, tear-jerking songs out of them.

Critics have also been praising the album as well. Lewis Corner from the Digital Spy commented on Joanne by saying   “…popping aside the synthetic personas for something more honest and, well, human…Lady Gaga’s sheer musical brilliance still shines through.

And Rob Sheffield from Rolling Stone says, “Joanne is a welcome reminder of why the world needs [Gaga] around.” Not to mention this is her fourth album to reach the Billboard charts .

Even after a month of it’s release people are still buzzing about her country tunes that no one can get out of her head. Joanne has  proved to the music industry she’s not leaving and we’re happy she’s staying, so she can continue to increase the love in this country through her music
