Mrs. Gaeta by Emily Moore

Throughout my four years at Freehold Township High School, I have come across multiple teachers, coaches and mentors. Although many of them have given me an abundance of knowledge and advice, there is one person who has left the most lasting impression on my life. Mrs. Gaeta, or as I know her as Conrad, has to be the person who has meant the most to me from Freehold Township. After four years with her, I have learned so much about not only soccer, but about myself and the person I want to be in life. She has taught me how to stand up for myself and work harder than I knew I could. Although I never got an ideal situation when it came to high school soccer, she was one of the biggest reasons I always decided to stick around. She always knew how to make me feel comfortable and to make the best of a negative situation. Her bright smile, contagious laugh and strong attitude always seemed to make me feel better even after the worse of days. She was extremely supportive and understanding when something bad had happened in my life, and during that time she became much more than just a soccer coach to me. And I’m pretty sure that we were the only two people who were always smiling at every early workout or practice, and everyone always got annoyed with how chipper we always are. When I played on Conrad’s team, I felt like she was a really close friend who I’d known for years, I could tell her anything and she always took what I said into mind. Overall, she made me into a better person, on and off the field, and I know that I always have her to count on, even years past graduation.
