Jessica Gets to Fence at Brandeis

Leah Emmerich, Editor-in-Chief

Athlete Name: Jessica Gets

College: Brandeis

Sport: Fencing

Why did you choose to go to this college?

“The college is very small so it’s perfect for me, it’s very family oriented which is important. I’m interested in going into something medical and they just re did their bio lab which is great. It’s close to a major city (Boston), and I love the fencing team there, so the school is perfect.”

Why do you think you’ve been so successful?

“My parents are a big part of my success, they always pushed me to be the best. They came [to America] without a dollar in their pocket, and they gave up everything for me to have a better life.”

What are some of the biggest highlights of your fencing career?

“2 years ago I was ranked 12th in the country for the under 16 category which was pretty cool. I was then able to fence internationally. 3 years ago I fenced in the Maccabee games, which is like the Jewish olympics. I was also ranked 16 in the senior category.”

What will you miss most about FTHS?

“The teachers definitely. I can’t complain about any of the teacher’s I’ve had. They’ve definitely helped me through the process. I’ll also miss the diversity of the school.”
