Earlier this month, a message was sent out to every student of the Freehold Regional High School District about the new school-wide email. Each student would have to use this email if they need to get in touch with a staff member or administrator. Every student’s email will have their school’s code, their year of graduation, their first initial, and then their last name and end with @frhsd.com.

To access this email, students have to go to www.outlook.com and log in as stated above. Students and staff are able to access it on their phones through the safari app or through the mail app.

If John Smith is a junior in Freehold Township, his email would be [email protected].
The Patriot Press interviewed Freehold Township’s principal, Mrs. Higley, about the new email requirement.

When asked about why the administrators want the students to use the email, Mrs. Higley stated, “The administrators and I have developed this email for about four years now. We wanted to use a platform that is safe and easy to use for students and faculty that works with the Microsoft based software we use in the schools.”

The FRHSD administration wanted an email address for the students to communicate with the staff in a way that enables the district to monitor teacher/student interaction. The students will only be able to use their email for school-related things, nothing that involves social media sites, online stores, personal messages, etc.

Mrs. Higley also added, “I hope the students are able to be safe on the new email, and if they aren’t, I’m able to monitor everything and see what’s going on.”

One of the biggest questions that was asked by a lot of the seniors was, “Are we going to have to use the email even though we only have seven months of school left?” Mrs. Higley replied to this question and said, “No. If your teachers don’t tell you to use the email, you do not need the email. It all depends on the teacher whether or not you need to make an account.”

Junior, Ashley D’Esposito had something positive to say about the new email requirement, “Having school emails is a great idea because not everyone has a ‘professional’ email address that teachers can easily identify as the student. I think it will encourage students to make an email other than the silly one they made when they were kids, which is important because no one in college and the real world will take someone seriously with an immature email address.”

Another junior, Leah Emmerich had a different opinion, “I think the school needs to do a better job of letting the students know how to access their new email accounts. If a student needs to email a teacher with a question or to turn in an assignment on time and they don’t know how to utilize their ‘school certified email,’ it can be stressful and overwhelming.”

The parents of students do not need to make an account because they are able to use their personal email if they have to ask a staff member a question.
The new FRHSD email is important to the district because they want all of the students to stay safe. It also is another way that the schools can keep up-to-date with technology.
