Girls Basketball Season Preview

Alex Mendoza, Sal Faenza, and Nick Lodispoto

Last year the FTHS Girls Basketball team made a strong run for the title with an 18-10 record. This year we will see some new faces on the court. Even though the team has to go through the struggle of rebuilding, Coach Stoia will do his best to help lead the girls to another great season.

With the loss of four starters and six seniors (due to graduation) this year is about finding the team’s true identity and continue our winning culture. Some of the key returners, this year, include: Harlie Kneler, Brianna Cucinelli, Sarah Hughes, Kaela Chadzctko, Theresa Sanzone, and Kaity Potter. Harlie a returning starter.

As Coach Stoia said,” Harlie will become more of a scorer than a past 1st point guard. Brianna will take care of the basketball more and take some pressure off of Harlie. Sarah will provide more offense and put pressure on opposing defenders. Kaela will lead the defense and will be a presence underneath the basket. Theresa will also provide offense and pressure defenders. Kaity is a good defender and scorer. She will be a major player on the team.”

Some of the key match-ups this season will be against Marlboro on December 21st away and January 25th home. These two games will show which team is rebuilding quicker since both teams have lost seniors due to graduation. Other key match-ups include Howell on January 8th home, February 2nd away and Freehold Boro on January 14th away, February 8th home. Both Howell and Freehold Boro are our longtime rivals and the games are always exciting as well as physical.
