On Thursday, February 20th, students and faculty of Freehold Township High School got to witness their most beloved event: Mr. FTHS! After a fun and competitive night where the best of the Class of 2020 competed to win the title of Mr. FTHS, only one emerged victorious. The Patriot Press had the opportunity to speak with this year’s winner and senior class favorite, Matthew Madonna, who told us a bit about his  favorite memories at Freehold Township and becoming Mr. FTHS.

“The title of Mr. FTHS means the world to me. I’m proud to represent the school and be someone the school can look up to.”

What was your favorite part about the event?

As great as the night was, the buildup to the show was my favorite part of Mr. FTHS. Practices at 7 AM and going to pasta parties allowed me to get closer to old friends and make new ones; we will always share a bond.

What was the most challenging round for you? How did you prepare for it?

The most challenging round was definitely the talent portion! I spent countless hours sweating in my basement watching “How to Dance like Napoleon Dynamite” on Youtube. I think it’s safe to say the hard work paid off the night of!

What will you miss most about Freehold Township High School?

I will miss the people of FTHS more than anything. I love it when the Township community comes together at school games or events like Mr. FTHS. I have so many amazing memories with my classmates and I’m thankful to have spent the last 4+ years with them. It’s crazy to think that we’re all graduating in a few months!

What’s a piece of advice you’d give to future Mr. FTHS contestants?

Don’t be afraid to be yourself and make a fool of yourself on stage. You’re gonna make a lot of people laugh and have one of the best nights in all of high school. And if you are nervous about being in front of a crowd, the seats are pitch black on stage so you can’t see anyone anyways. Good luck and have fun!
