Tasty Tuesdays with Gab: Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Gabriella Cardillo, Staff Writer

This week, my little brother and I really wanted something chocolatey. We considered all of our options; brownies, cake, cupcakes. After about fifteen minutes of debating, we finally came to a decision, cookies!

We went to one of my favorite baking websites, allrecipes.com, to find something tasty. The recipe we found was for chocolate crinkle cookies. This recipe makes a lot of cookies, so it’s perfect for a party or any other event.

This recipe needs some time to chill the dough so this time I didn’t start by preheating my oven like I usually do. I began with mixing together the cocoa powder, white sugar, and vegetable oil. I always use Hershey’s cocoa powder for baking, but you can use any kind you like. Then, I mixed in all four eggs, one by one and added in the vanilla extract. I gradually mixed in the flour and then added in baking powder and salt. Online says to chill the dough in the fridge for at least four hours, but I didn’t have all that time to spare. So, instead of putting the dough in the fridge for that long, I put it in the freezer for about an hour and a half!

Once the dough was done chilling, I preheated the oven to 350° Fahrenheit and buttered a cookie sheet. I then got a small bowl and filled it with a generous amount of powdered sugar for rolling. These cookies should all be uniform in size so I used an ice cream scoop and rolled each scoop of dough into balls. The cookies shouldn’t be huge or anything so I also didn’t use a whole scoop for each ball, it was more like halfway filling the ice cream scoop. Lastly, I rolled each dough ball in the powdered sugar to completely coat them, then I baked for 12 minutes!
