FTHS Visits Broadway for The Color Purple

On the first of June, Mrs. Richardson took her AP class, as well as some other students to the city to see the Broadway musical, The Color Purple. Her seniors had read the book in class and were all ecstatic to see the musical.

After school, all of the students, the chaperons and Mrs. Richardson took a charter bus to New York City. The bus took us right to dinner, where the students ate at Heartland Brewery. Some of the choices of food were mac and cheese, rotisserie chicken, Cesar salad, and pasta with sauce. For dessert, everyone devoured the cookies and brownies that were on the tables.

There was a little time before the musical started, so everyone split up into smaller groups to walk around the city.

At 8:30, everyone met up at the theater. The theater was small, so even though everyone was in the back rows, there was still a great view.

The show was about 2 and a half hours long. The lead role, played by Cynthia Erivo, was absolutely breathtaking and there was not a dry eye in the house. The musical ended up getting a standing ovation after everyone was blown away by the talent.

After the long day in the city, the group went home and got back around midnight.

Senior, Renee Marcinczuk said, “I thought The Color Purple was fantastic! They did an amazing job at portraying the book and using important quotes from the novel within the songs which was awesome. And the singing was incredible, the okay could have had no plot and the singing alone would’ve made it worth while. Truly an incredible performance.”

Overall, the group had a great time and and they were all thankful that they were able to go.
