Title: Para Los Niños
Media: Mixed Media
Size: 12.7cm x 17.8cm each
Explanation of Intent: (500 characters)

I went to Honduras on a volunteer trip in July to build a school, and I gained invaluable experiences and relationships. Two kids that I met, Ashley and Mario, are featured on the two clay boards that I worked on. Recently, there has been a falsified political election that has caused violence and deaths. I am creating this piece to spread awareness about the strife happening and the importance of getting involved to help the kids that have such a bright future.

Looking Through the Stained Glass
Watercolor
23 cm (w) x 31.5 cm (h)

This piece is the core of my exhibition. It illustrates many colors, showing the many different experiences throughout my life. Some parts dark and gloomy like the blues, while other are positive and cheery illustrated by the yellow pieces in the work. Obviously, in everyone’s life there are ups and downs and in this piece I wanted to illustrate those experiences in an abstract matter. Look through my stain glass to see all the good, bad, and middle gray areas that are a mixture of the two.

Title: The Storm Medium: photography
Dimensions: 20.32 cm x 25.4 cm
Intent:
There is a certain sense of quietness that comes with the rain that makes us reflect and think deeper. This piece was meant to show the importance of accepting your weakness, what breaks you, in order to grow and find peace. When the storm breaks us open, we get to decide how to rebuild ourselves because the shards created from every storm shape our character and give us the opportunity to emerge stronger and wiser.

Title: Animal Perspectives 20.3cm x 25.4cm (each)
The purpose of this piece is to explore new perspectives in nature photography. I wanted to add a unique angle to common plants found in nature. I chose to make this my black and white piece because it enhances little details through the contrasting colors and shadows. The environment and preservation of nature is important to me and this piece highlights the simplistic beauty of the natural world if one takes the time to notice it.

Title: Family Creations

Mixed Media: Pencil and Acrylic Paint

Size: 37.8 cm x 37.8 cm

Explanation of Intent:
This piece signifies my family through a self portrait of myself. I included a record to show our love for music, a fan that my grandmother gave to me, and a sunflower to represent the happiness of my family. This piece is able to show how even small objects in my life effect me and how much of an important role my family plays. I put the whole piece on a canvas board painted in bright colors to signify the bright and happy feeling my family brings into my life.

Title: Resist
Medium: Photography
Size: 20.32 x 25.4 cm
Statement of Intent: This art piece was inspired by the “take a knee” movement in the NFL and the social feelings this movement spurred. The belief that standing for the national anthem is an indicator of patriotism frustrated me and I was inspired by the phrase, “Forced patriotism is fascism.” The method of typography was inspired by artist Barbara Kruger, as well as the black and white photograph. To create this artwork, I took a picture of my own fist and edited the photograph in photoshop.

Title: “Trump sux”
Media: Newspaper, Black Acrylic Ink
Size: 40.64 cm x 50.8 cm
Statement of Intent: For this piece, I wanted to make a political statement, since I have become interested in politics as I have aged. I decided to use my piece to comment on the negative changes that Donald Trump has made since he was elected President of the U.S. I incorporated newspaper articles that describe ways Trump has displayed ignorance or incompetence as a leader. I then found a picture of him that I wanted to display. I obtained this picture from nbcnews.com, and it was taken by Mark Peterson.
