Lauren Mellerup, Staff Writer

Who?: FTHS Students Helping Honduras

What?: The Students Helping Honduras chapter at FTHS is holding a 5k run/walk to fundraise for the construction of a school in Honduras.

Where?: Manalapan Township Recreation Center, Manalapan, NJ 07726

When?: Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 10-1pm

Why?: Students Helping Honduras is an organization that is determined to end the cycle of poverty in Honduras through building 1,000 schools across the country. Currently, Honduras is facing problems with gang violence and a lack of education. Some kids want to go to school so bad that they will risk their lives on long journeys through dangerous streets just to get there. This year, the goal is to raise $25,000 to fully fund the construction of a school. At this 5k, the goal is to raise $10,000 to kick start the fundraising goal for the entire year. This fundraiser is a huge opportunity to raise the majority of the $25,000. Everyone is encouraged to sign up and recruit as many people as possible. Every dollar raised translates to one brick that will be used in the construction of the school in Honduras. This upcoming summer, FTHS students will travel to Honduras to work alongside the Honduran people in the construction of the school that this 5k is raising money for.
