Talking Dead with Pedro (7.5)

Pedro Vasquez, Staff Writer

After witnessing the death of her husband, Maggie successfully made it to the Hilltop with Sasha to figure out if her baby was okay. When she finally wakes up, she was in the Hilltop infirmary with Dr. Carson. Dr. Carson broke the news to Maggie that she suffered a separation of the placenta and the uterus which would result in an unusually early in the pregnancy, but she would be okay with proper rest. Dr. Carson recommended to Maggie to stay at Hilltop until the baby is born in case she has anymore troubles.

Once Maggie was free to leave the infirmary, she met up with Sasha, and together they visited the graves of their past loved ones, Glenn and Abraham. Before Glenn and Abraham were buried, Sasha went through their pockets to see if they had anything useful, but the only things they found were Hershel’s (Maggie’s father) watch (which he passed onto Glenn in season 2 because he was a good man to Maggie), and Abraham’s reliable cigar. In their tribute, Maggie put Hershel’s watch on top of Glenn’s grave and Sasha kept Abraham’s cigar to smoke later.

As they were paying their respects, they were interrupted by Jesus. Jesus put flowers on their graves and paid his respects because he liked both of them, Abraham made Jesus smile, and Glenn was just a likable guy from the beginning. Their touching moment was interrupted by a furious Gregory (leader of the Hilltop) because he disapproved of Maggie and Sasha staying until the baby is born and that they buried people on their property because they usually burn the dead! Gregory was uncooperative as usual in saying it was Maggie’s fault because she allowed herself to get pregnant and everyone watching wished that he was Negan’s victim. Gregory also believes that they’ll just cause trouble for the Hilltop with the Saviors.

Back in Alexandria, Rick decides to go on a run with Aaron to get supplies for Negan’s next visit. Rick tries to get Carl to come with them, but he wanted to stay back for the sake of baby Judith. Once Rick and Aaron left, Carl notices right away that his girlfriend, Enid, is leaving Alexandria once again, but this time to see if her motherly figure, Maggie, is okay. Everytime Enid leaves Alexandria to go somewhere, Carl is the one to bring her home, but in this case Carl decides to give up on saving her. What happens later on? Carl comes to Enid’s rescue from a walker and runs over the walker with a car, and together they walk and later roller skate to The Hilltop.

Back at the Hilltop, a nighttime unfolded with a lot of people awakening to Savior’s ramming through and sending a mob of walkers through Hilltop Gates! Jesus, Sasha, and Maggie fought off all of the walkers so they can go back and catch up on their beauty sleep. Jesus with his martial arts, kung-fu moves helped fight off the attack, and also used a knife. Sasha helped by using her knife as well, but Maggie out of nowhere comes out with a tractor, ramming through the walkers like a monster truck driver! Of course when they woke up, Gregory was still stubborn about Maggie and Sasha staying, and not thinking nor saying if they stay, they can help!

As Gregory was having his meeting with Jesus about Maggie and Sasha’s fate at the Hilltop, the Saviors rammed through another one of their gates and arrived with an army ready for battle, but in this case Negan’s right hand man, Simon just wanted to have a chat. When Gregory saw who it was, he locked Maggie and Sasha in one of his closets until the Saviors left, so they wouldn’t be killed. Simon ended up confessing that it was him that sent the walkers in the night before, but in a twist in the conversation, Simon confessed that the invasion happened because they were about to kill all of the walkers for them, and apparently, the invasion made their jobs much more easier instead.

Once their conversation ended, Simon sent their men to go take half of their stuff, and once done, Gregory almost did the most twisted thing ever by giving up where he locked up Sasha and Maggie. Thankfully, he didn’t show their location, but instead showed them and allowed for them to take a big box of alcoholic beverages, which Simon appreciated. Before the Saviors left, Simon requested Gregory kneel before him to shame him, and to show who’s boss.

Carl and Enid finally arrived at Hilltop, and hid behind bushes away from the Saviors. Carl told Enid that he would jump on a truck heading back to the Sanctuary and possibly locate and kill Negan. Enid persuaded him not to go because she wants him to remain safe, so she suggested he stay at Hilltop, but Carl won’t give, and but what saw was an awesome moment—Enid and Carl kissed for the first time. (Which could be considered a goodbye kiss?)

When Gregory finally let Maggie and Sasha out of the closet, Maggie punched Gregory right across the face! Not for locking her in the closet, not for almost giving away their location to the Saviors, but for stealing her father’s watch that he gave Glenn! Gregory’s response was that it was a nice watch to be left out in the open like that. Maggie stepped up to Gregory and told him that she wasn’t going to take him bossing them around anymore, and for him to stop calling her honey, sweetie, or anything but her name! She said her name is Maggie Rhee, and she and Sasha are staying until the baby is born!

At the end of the episode, Sasha smoked Abraham’s cigar in his honor while conversing with Jesus and said for them to leave it up to her and Maggie to find out where Negan lives! Jesus jumped onto one of the Savior’s trucks leaving Hilltop and ran into Carl, and together are headed towards the Sanctuary with the Saviors.

Back at home, Enid waited at Glenn’s grave for Maggie and when Maggie found her, she took her back to her place and together with Sasha said grace and ate as if they were all a family. There, Maggie decided to give the watch to Enid, for being a daughter-like figure for Maggie!

Overall, this was another great episode—tune into next week’s episode where viewers find out where Tara and Heath have been ever since they went on their run in the second half of season six. Remember, they have no clue who Negan is and what situation the group back home is dealing with, so will they make it back in time to join the party?

Tune in next week, but for now, Ta-ta!
