Talking Walking Dead with Pedro (7.2)
November 5, 2016
EDITORS NOTE: This column discusses events from The Walking Dead, season 7 episode 2. Spoilers ahead!
After the outrageous debut of Negan, the group meets a new group of people dressed as knights that live in a fairytale known as “The Kingdom.” Indeed, this is what season seven, episode 2 was all about!
Viewers got a first glimpse into “The Kingdom” during the season finale of season six of the television show where they witnessed Carol almost dying from a gunshot wound by a random savior. A wounded Carol pleaded aggressively for the savior to kill her because she was tired of living and didn’t want to live in this crazy world anymore. Luckily for her, Morgan came to the rescue and killed the savior and saved his friend from possible death. These two men, with body armour and horses reminiscent of the medieval time period, came to the rescue of Morgan and Carol.
Fast forward to season seven episode two, Carol wakes up after two days’ rest and immediately asks Morgan “Where are we?” Morgan ends up taking Carol on a ride on her wheelchair around The Kingdom to the person who is in charge of the place. During the trip Morgan tells Carol all about “The Kingdom” and takes her to a theatre where the “King” lives. There, Carol was introduced to King Ezekiel and his pet tiger, Shiva! All at once, Shiva roared loudly signaling a pivotal change in Carol’s world. Carol was astonished, and at the same time, in a fantasy (or perhaps, a circus?) with the tiger and people acting medieval.
The Kingdom has a lot of new discoveries that most viewers didn’t even know about such as religion, a school, garden for trades with other communities, army, and especially their own choir. All of this does not beat the secret King Ezekiel is hiding from the rest of the community. The secret is that they are feeding pet pigs actual zombies. After the pigs are fed, they skin the pigs and use them as trade for the saviors! The Kingdom is under the thumb of the saviors. Morgan told them about their past with the saviors, but still doesn’t know what the group has gone through at the hands of Negan.
King Ezekiel put Morgan and Carol to work around the place and to help their soldiers use weapons properly. Morgan helped young Ben use a wooden staff as a weapon, and became an expert. Carol ran away and persuaded Morgan that if she does, to not follow her. Ezekiel caught up to her before she left and asked her why she was leaving. He told her about this community, why he built it, and how he got Shiva. The viewers thought that Carol was going to stay, but she kept her word and left “The Kingdom.” Morgan walked her to where she planned to stay for a while, and as she got settled, King Ezekiel showed up with Shiva and some of their homemade fruit which ended the episode.
Overall, this was a rather interesting episode because viewers saw two debuts in two weeks and they have something to look forward to when they see the previews of the upcoming episodes. Next week, viewers will be in the home of the saviors, and experience what is happening to Daryl after hitting Negan in the face. What will happen to Daryl? The viewers will find out next week in the following episode of The Walking Dead! Stay safe Freehold Patriots, and don’t go wandering into a fantasy place with a pet tiger, but for now, “Ta-ta!”
